Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon olive or avocado oil
  • 1 pound ground chicken (turkey, pork, or beef)
  • 3 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger (grated or ½ teaspoon ground ginger)
  • 1 small onion (thinly sliced)
  • 1 14–16 oz bag coleslaw mix (shredded cabbage & carrots)
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce or coconut aminos
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sugar or honey
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 2 green onions (sliced)
  • 1 teaspoon toasted sesame seeds (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat the oils.
  2. In a large skillet or wok, heat sesame oil and olive oil over medium-high heat.
  3. Add the ground meat. Break it apart with a spoon and cook until fully browned.
  4. Stir in the garlic, ginger, and sliced onion. Cook for 1–2 minutes until fragrant and slightly soft.
  5. Add the coleslaw mix. Toss and cook for 3–4 minutes until the cabbage softens but still has a little crunch.
  6. Pour in soy sauce, rice vinegar, sugar (or honey), black pepper, and red pepper flakes. Stir well to coat everything.
  7. Cook another 2–3 minutes until hot and well combined. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.
  8. Top with green onions and sesame seeds. Serve hot.

Notes

  • This dish is versatile; you can swap the ground meat for your preferred choice.
  • Adjust the spice level by adding more or less crushed red pepper flakes.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
