  • ¾ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup raisins
  • Optional topping: powdered sugar or vanilla glaze

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Lightly grease a medium baking dish with butter.
  2. Spread the bread cubes evenly inside the dish. Sprinkle the raisins over the bread.
  3. In a bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, brown sugar, granulated sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until smooth.
  4. Slowly pour the custard mixture over the bread. Gently press the bread down so it absorbs the liquid evenly.
  5. Drizzle the melted butter over the top.
  6. Let the mixture rest for 10 minutes to allow the bread to soak fully.
  7. Bake uncovered for 40 minutes, or until the center is set and the top is lightly golden.
  8. Remove from the oven and let cool for 5 minutes. Dust with powdered sugar or drizzle with vanilla glaze if desired.
