Description
This garlicky Caprese-inspired toast transforms ordinary French bread into a mouthwatering masterpiece of melty cheese and garden-fresh flavors.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 (12 ounce) loaf French bread
- olive oil spray
- 4 tablespoons salted butter, softened
- 5 cloves garlic, pressed
- 12 ounces fresh mozzarella cheese, thinly sliced
- 4 small tomatoes, sliced, or more as needed
- salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
- 1/3 cup chopped fresh basil
- drizzle of balsamic glaze
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper. Cut the French bread in half lengthwise, then slice each half crosswise into 3-4 pieces for easier handling.
- Place bread pieces cut-side up on the prepared baking sheet and lightly coat with olive oil spray.
- In a small bowl, combine the softened butter with pressed garlic until well incorporated.
- Spread the garlic butter evenly across all bread pieces.
- Arrange mozzarella slices over the garlic butter, slightly overlapping. Layer tomato slices on top and season with salt and freshly ground black pepper.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the cheese is completely melted and starting to bubble.
- Remove from the oven and immediately sprinkle with fresh chopped basil.
- Drizzle with balsamic glaze just before serving.
